Why Study International GCSE Enterprise?

International GCSE Enterprise is a unique syllabus that brings the world of business into the classroom and gives learners a clear insight into what it means to think like an entrepreneur. This is the first International GCSE syllabus, which asks learners to adopt the thoughts and actions of entrepreneurs, developing their knowledge and understanding of the practicalities of setting up and running their own new enterprise. International GCSE Enterprise equips learners with a range of vital life skills for use in planning and organisation, communication and financial management.

Key concepts covered in the course

  • Definition of enterprise and types of enterprises, including business and social enterprises.
  • Understanding stakeholders and their roles.
  • The enterprise process involving identifying problems, exploring solutions, action planning, implementing plans, monitoring progress, and evaluating successes and failures.
  • Different types of business organisations and their legal statuses, advantages, and disadvantages.
  • Development and application of practical skills such as leadership, team-building, problem-solving, negotiation, and innovation.
  • Identifying and evaluating personal enterprise skills.
  • Identifying enterprise opportunities through changing needs, technological advances, and policy changes.
  • Understanding risks in financial, economic, health and safety, and human resources.
  • Complying with legal obligations and incorporating ethical considerations in business practices.
  • The negotiation process, including planning, conducting, and evaluating negotiations.
  • Techniques and strategies for effective negotiation, such as setting objectives, presenting proposals, and reaching agreements.
  • Various sources of finance for start-up funding and ongoing operations, including personal savings, loans, grants, and crowdfunding.
  • Understanding financial terms and the concept of trade credit, including its advantages and disadvantages for both entrepreneurs and their suppliers/customers.

Prior requirements and hours of study

International GCSE Enterprise requires about 130 hours of study. The number of hours needed may vary depending on your previous experience of the subject.

We do not expect learners starting this course to have previously studied Enterprise.
